Six illustrated pupils' books and two teachers' books to help children become competent writers. The books break away from traditional, narrow teaching methods and redefine writing as everything from a list to a letter to a project. The purpose is to make writing a varied challenge - and fun.
1990 Growing Up in Smoke. Pluto Press. A first account of children as passive smokers.
2003 Shattered: Life With ME. HarperCollins. Based on interviews with 30 people of all ages and backgrounds, this books tells how it it to live with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome or ME, a severe, poorly understood illness for which there is no treatment. Recent cases of long Covid have brought this much neglected illness back into focus.

1997 Moving Apart. Runner-up. SHE Short Story Competition. Selected from over 2000 entries.
1997 Cactus Flower. Runner-up. Woman's Own and Crooks Healthcare Short Story Competition. Selected from 'several thousand entries" and told that the quality of the writing was 'superior to any' but the topic of sexual abuse was 'not suitable for publication'!
1990 Dance of The Dolphins. Runner-up. Faber/Guardian/Jackanory Children's Novel Competition. Selected from 3000 entries.
